Tacoma, WA (May 11, 2026) — Horizon Partners Northwest, Inc is proud to announce the completion of a major renovation at the historic Willamette Building to include 18 makerspace studios. The Willamette Building is a 242,229-square-foot brick industrial complex located at 2916–2926 S. Steele Street in Tacoma’s Nalley Valley corridor. Originally constructed in 1907 for the Willamette Casket Company, the building has long served as a home to industrial warehouse and office space tenants. The latest renovation in the five- story tower involves 35,000 square feet of new makerspace units now available to be leased to the public. With this redevelopment, the property has expanded its offerings to include a new hub for creativity and innovation in Tacoma.
The renovation of floors 1 and 2 is now exclusively dedicated to a makerspace concept, designed to support a wide range of uses. Makerspaces are shared work environments where individuals and businesses can design, experiment, and build—bringing together tools, technology, and collaboration. These flexible spaces can accommodate activities ranging from arts and community projects to light manufacturing, prototyping, and workshops.
Available suites range in size from 1,019 to 3,741 square feet, with rental rates between $1,273.75 and $4,676.25. Each unit is thoughtfully designed to inspire productivity and creativity, featuring abundant natural light, high ceilings, partial mezzanine levels, and convenient onsite parking.
Listed on both the Tacoma and National Register of Historic Places, the Willamette Building blends historic character with modern functionality. Its prime location offers easy access to Highway 16, Interstate 5, and Highway 509, making it an attractive destination for tenants seeking both accessibility and a distinctive work environment.
“This project reflects our continued commitment to preserving Tacoma’s architectural heritage while adapting spaces for modern use,” said Mike Bartlett, founder of Horizon Partners Northwest. “We’re excited to provide a place where creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators can thrive.”
